Karen Vallerius
. Congratulations! Here is her winning entry :-
Miracle Moi
My pupil oscillates like the pigmented splotch on a chameleon’s back. Reflected light ricochets through the cornea onto the retina, zapping my brain. An indiscernible optical science lab whirrs as I check the calories on the cereal packet.
A gazillion more incredible experiments process as I prepare, smell and taste my breakfast. I gulp bitter coffee, caffeine jolting cells into life like Frankenstein’s spark.
Frowning, I scroll through my unphotogenic social feed. A flock of crows’ feet, hippo jowls, thighs that could win the Grand National.
Whoa. Pushing ego aside, I marvel at the countless little miracles of being alive.
