2008 NAWG Writing Competition

Rules
Please follow these rules, which apply to categories 1 to 9. If you break these rules your entry will not go to the judge.
1. Two copies of each entry to be submitted with entry form.
2. Only one entry per person will be accepted for each category. Entries cannot be returned. The Competition Administrator cannot accept changes to any submitted entry nor are substitute entries acceptable.
3. Identifying marks must not appear on entries.
4. All entries to be in English.
5. Line count to be given on poetry entries and word count given on prose entries.
6. All entries to be typewritten on plain white A4 paper in a standard black typeface on one side of the page only. First or second class postal entries only.

SPECIAL REQUESTS
Please do not send entries by Recorded Delivery or Special Delivery. Please make sure the correct postage is paid. NAWG will not pay to receive entries under any circumstances and entries with insufficient postage will not be accepted from Royal Mail. Please do not use sticky tape to make an impregnable package. Please do not expect your late entry to be accepted. Email entries are not acceptable.
Competition Categories for 2008
1. Free Verse Poem. Any subject. Maximum 40 lines. Single spaced.
2. Acrostic Poem. Any subject. Maximum 20 lines. Single spaced.
3. A Poem about Writing. Maximum 40 lines. Free or formal. Single spaced.
4. Humorous Dialogue for the stage. Any subject. Any style. Maximum 2,000 words. Double spaced.
5. Open Short Story (1,500 words). Double spaced.
6. Short Story using a single colour of your choice as a strong influence throughout your story. Maximum 1,500 words. Double spaced.
7. Article – Biography. Write about a person of interest. Maximum 1,500 words. Double spaced.
8. A Short Story for Children. Maximum 1,000 words. Double spaced. Please specify the ages the story is intended for.
9. A Letter as a “Voice from the Past.” Maximum 1,200 words. Any subject. Double spaced.
10. Denise Robertson Trophy for the Best Group Anthology. One entry only from each writers’ group. Anthologies must not have been entered in this category before. The competition rules for individual pieces of work do not apply to this category.
