The Writers' Study

The Writers’  Study, run by Sandy Neville and Judie Jones is a  self-help group aimed at aspiring writers of all ages, from the novice to the more experienced writer.

We have three terms of six fortnightly evening sessions a year.   We do not offer formal teaching, but members learn of markets for their work, current competitions and how to find a publisher.  We have manuscript readings/critiques, writing exercises, mini-workshops, competitions, talks by published authors and social events.   We help each other and make writing fun.

Since 2005 we have had many successes.  One of our past members, already a published author has been commissioned to write a follow-up book.   Several of our group have been commended or highly commended in the Poole Writers’ annual competitions, had poetry published and regularly submit short stories and articles to magazines.  A few are currently working on novels and autobiographies.   Two past members have gone on to study creative writing at University level.

Sandy and Judie regularly record the group’s short stories, poems and anecdotes for a local radio station, which are broadcast to favourable comment.    We have also produced our first Anthology of member’s work.

We now look forward to these earlier successes continuing for many years to come.
