Wellingborough Writers

Wellingborough Writers began as a tutored evening group in Wellingborough in 1983. We have continued as a self-help group of local writers and poets meeting twice each month (one afternoon and one evening) at the British Legion Club in the High Street.

We have 20 associated members of all ages, with six to 12 meeting at any one time. Among our group we have poets, a numismatist, a local historian, a naturalist, a nutritionist, a plumber, housewives, students, magazine writers and those interested in script writing, short stories and novels.

We receive information on local and national competitions, and are kept in touch with WordWorks events via the Northants library service. We run our own workshops, and visit others, and members are invited to bring any work-in-progress for reading. From time to time, we also invite visiting speakers.

Writers have produced their own anthologies in the past, and as a group we have written for Radio Connect FM. A book of these stories, Twilight Tales, has been published by W. D. Wharton. Individuals have also published stories and articles in national magazines.

Penny Alexander is chairperson, greatly supported by all members on and off the committee.
