Moorside Writers

Contact: Dorothy Cooke (Secretary), 19 Hill Top Road, Dronfield S18 1UH

The group was formed in 1997 after members had completed a WEA creative writing course together. We meet every week in each other's homes, with a core membership of 10. Our current chairperson is John Pratt.
In 2001 we applied for, and received, an Awards for All Lottery grant. This has funded a year-long programme of writing workshops and performance evenings under the heading ‘Writing, reading and sharing’. Following the success of these events, we plan to hold monthly open meetings at Chesterfield Library throughout 2003.
Individual members have had success in competitions (e.g. NAWG Awards) and publication in Envoi, Staple, etc., but our main outlet for bringing our work to public notice is by performance readings. We usually invite musicians to join us – a jazz group, singers - and have built up an ever-growing and appreciative audience.
We are currently working on the production of our third anthology.
