Free Spirit Writers

Free Spirit Writers are Bridlington couple Mike and Diane Wilson. Both Mike and Diane are heavily involved in the National Association of Writers' Groups, Mike edits Link magazine as well as being Vice-Chairman. Both have been successful in NAWG competitions, which you can read about elsewhere, and have had articles and poetry published. They have written and appeared in four pantomimes and four murder mystery evenings, and occasionally perform their local history material in Bridlington's Harbour Heritage Museum to groups of visiting schoolchildren. In July 2004, Congleton Players performed Mike's twenty-minute one-act play "A Cacophony of Devils," and in 2006 they performed Diane’s one-act play “Remember.” On three occasions, the couple have performed "Silvered Wings," a short play about Amy Johnson's heroic flight to Australia in May 1930. Mike and Diane have read their short drama and poems during the Lifeboat Sunday service at Bridlington's Priory.

Mike has self-published three books about Bridlington, and has had his novel published by Biscuit Publishing Ltd. "Full Fathom Five" tells of conflict and heroism among lifeboat men in Victorian Bridlington, while Diane's book, "The Iron Harvest," is a compilation of poetry and prose, which deals with the First World War, the Ypres Salient and Talbot House in Poperinge. Diane continues to be short-listed or awarded top three places in national poetry competitions.

You can buy a copy of Mike's book at £5.99 (please add 50p towards postage) from him at 40 Burstall Hill, Bridlington, East Yorkshire YO16 7GA. Diane's book costs £3.99 (50p postage) and is available from the same address. Please makes cheques payable to M. Wilson or D. Wilson.

He has just republished "Historical Sketches of Bridlington" and “The History of the Priory Church at Bridlington,” both first published in 1821. These are available at £4.99 (post free).

On 2nd May 2008, Mike will be launching his latest book about Bridlington. It has 370 photographs in its 130 pages and is titled “My Bridlington.” He has also just self-published “Little Tyke,” a collection of poetry told through the eyes of a boy born in 1936. “My  Bridlington” is £7.00 (£1.00 postage) while “Little Tyke” is £4.50 (£1.00 postage).
