Andover Writers' Workshop About Our Group
Andover Writers' Workshop was founded in 1980, and aims to help its
members gain fun and fulfilment from their creative writing by
encouraging them to develop their skills in a friendly forum. About half
our meetings are reading weeks, when students are given the opportunity
to read aloud their work for constructive criticism. The remaining
sessions are dedicated to instant writing, literary criticism, market
research, themed evenings, and other activities. From time to time we
receive visits from guest speakers, and in the past have hosted features
and fiction writers, journalists, playwrights, poets, writers for radio
and television, contributors to and editors of magazines and newspapers,
book publishers, booksellers, and those who have gone it alone. In
addition we arrange social events, termly competitions, and trips to
theatres and other performances and venues of interest to writers. We
also produce a newsletter and an occasional anthology. The group has
always been characterized by its sense of humour and friendly welcome to
newcomers.
