"The Overnight Fame of Steffi McBride."

I am the ghostwriter behind many of the best-selling non-fiction books on supermarket shelves (for details see my website www.andrewcrofts.com). In September, I have a novel coming out. Knowing how hard it is to draw the public's attention to fiction, I have decided to follow the lead of the music industry with a dramatisation (a bit like a trailer for a film) on YouTube. The book is narrated by a young girl who becomes a soap star overnight. I have cast a young actress as Steffi and made a talking head film of her telling the opening few minutes of her story. You can see the resulting film at www.steffimcbride.com. I would be very interested to know what you think.

Poetry enthusiasts of T.S. Eliot from across the country will gather at the tiny hamlet of Little Gidding for the third annual T. S. Eliot Festival, to be held on Saturday 17 May 2008. The festival programme includes inspiring talks and readings celebrating poetry and the work of T.S. Eliot.

The day’s programme begins with the annual Little Gidding Lecture, to be delivered by Peter Stanford, the authorised biographer of C. Day-Lewis. Titled ‘On Not Saying Everything’, the talk will examine poetry’s role in capturing religious experience. The festival’s Keynote Speaker is Ingrid Soren, also known as the writer Rosamund Richardson. The day will conclude with an evening reading by the acclaimed poet, Sean O’Brien, the recipient of both the 2007 T.S. Eliot Prize and the 2007 Forward Poetry Prize.

Interspersed with audience readings, music, tea and a buffet supper, the festival promises to be an inspiring and convivial gathering at the beautiful setting of Little Gidding, which has remained virtually unchanged since T.S. Eliot visited and was inspired to write about it in his most famous poem ‘Four Quartets’.

Manchester’s première theatre festival will return for a fifth fantastic year from 21 - 28 July 2008 in a variety of non-theatre venues around the city centre.

The recent 2007 festival was an eclectic mix of the best new writing from the North West and beyond and was attended by thousands of delighted audience members. Three plays have been nominated in the upcoming Manchester Evening News Theatre Awards Best New Play category.

Our adjudication process ensures the Festival’s reputation as an exceptionally high quality showcase for writers, actors and directors, which captures the attention of industry talent scouts. Some shows go on to perform around the region, including the Octagon Theatre, Bolton, and Manchester’s Library Theatre.
